This simple naan bread recipe is not only healthy, but also free of any yeast. It takes less than half an hour to prepare with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
If you want to make it vegan or gluten-free, all you have to do is switch the ingredients – it’s so easy to make!
Pair it with any curry or soup, or serve it with your sharing platter. Naan bread always tests better when freshly baked, but you can also save for the next day.
All you have to do is mix these following ingredients:
Flour – 250 g
Plain, Greek-style yogurt – 250 g
Baking powder – 2 teaspoons
Bring the flour and yogurt together in a bowl and knead.
Do not over-use the baking powder as it can affect the taste of the bread. Add approximately a quarter of a teaspoon of salt and a tiny dash of olive oil.
Knead it all into a sticky ball. Add more flour if needed.
Divide into six equal pieces that you then thinly roll out.
Heat your frying pan. Do not add any oil! You can use a cast iron pan or a non-stick pan. It needs to be quite hot.
Place the flattened dough in the pan and cook on each side until it puffs up and gets a golden colour.
Although it is best enjoyed the same day, you can reheat the naan on the next day too.
